Welcome to the office of Dr. Rebecca Pounds. We are excited that you are joining our patient family, and look forward to partnering with you to create your ideal, healthy smile.
Our dental office in downtown Pittsburgh will probably be different than the ones you are used to. Our practice is devoted to not only giving you exceptional dental care, but also ensuring that every experience you have with us leaves you feeling better when you walk out then when you walk in.
You will discover that our entire office is comfortable and calming, with spacious treatment rooms equipped with the latest technology. Dr. Pounds is always ready to schedule one-on-one time with you, getting to know you, discussing your treatment options and answering your questions.
Our goal is to give you not just a beautiful smile that you can be proud of, but a highly functioning one that operates perfectly with minimal wear. Dr. Pounds is one of the few dentists in the state who is fully trained in Bioesthetic Dentistry, and she can bring form and function together to give you a smile that lasts your lifetime.
Our administrative team is ready to help you with questions about scheduling, financial policy and insurance, to make that part of the process as simple as possible.
Scheduling a Visit
We are proud to offer early morning, evening and Saturday appointments. Many of our patients also prefer “lunchtime” visits since our office is conveniently located in downtown Pittsburgh, near their own office.
Our office is open at the following times:
- Monday from 8 AM until 4 PM
- Tuesday from 9AM to 6PM
- Wednesday from 8AM until 5PM
- Thursday from 7 AM until 2 PM
- Friday from 8 AM until 12 PM
- One Saturday per month from 8 AM until 2 PM
We will schedule your appointment as promptly as possible. If you have pain or an emergency situation, every attempt will be made to see you that day.
Your First Visit
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, treatment can be done the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:
- Completed new patient forms
- Your referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
- A list of medications you are presently taking

IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 during the consultation visit.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.). A complete list of medications, supplements, vitamins, and over the counter drugs is helpful.
If your previous dentist or a physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If Dr. Pounds prescribes additional x-rays, they can be taken at our office.
We strive to work with each patient to develop a treatment plan that fits your schedule and financial situation. For your convenience we accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. We also offer third-party financing with Care Credit. In many cases, patients can finance their treatment into affordable monthly payments with little to no interest.
We deliver the finest care at the most reasonable cost to our patients, therefore payment is due at the time service is rendered unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
If you have questions regarding your account, please contact us at 412-261-2500. Many times, a simple telephone call will clear any misunderstandings.
Please remember you are fully responsible for all fees charged by this office regardless of your insurance coverage.
We will send you a monthly statement. Most insurance companies will respond within four to six weeks. Please call our office if your statement does not reflect your insurance payment within that time frame.
Any remaining balance after your insurance has paid is your responsibility. Your prompt remittance is appreciated. We can make arrangements for a monthly payment plan but this must be done prior to the actual procedure.
At the office of Dr. Rebecca Pounds, we make every effort to provide you with the finest care and the most convenient financial options. To accomplish this we work hand-in-hand with you to maximize your insurance reimbursement for covered procedures. Your estimated co-payment is due at the time of service.
We make every effort to maximize the insurance benefits of each patient. We work with most dental insurance plans and are in-network providers for some dental insurance plans. Please call our office for more information.
Every insurance plan is different and, in many cases, our recommended treatment may not be covered by your plan. Dental insurance is very different than traditional medical insurance. In fact, most dental insurance maximums haven’t increased since the 1970’s. In more and more cases, we are finding that many patients have significantly less coverage than they think they do. Many plans do not provide 100% coverage for things like exams, preventive cleanings and x-rays. Crowns, dental implants, bridges, etc. are rarely covered at more than 50%. Veneers and other cosmetic services are rarely covered at all. More and more of our patients are discovering that their dental plan is really a “discount” on basic, minimum standard care. Don’t worry – we’ll work with you to explain your coverage and treatment options before every appointment.
Please ask a member of our team about your coverage, benefits, and treatment options. In some cases, you may be required to gather additional information directly from your employer.
Our practice is equipped with the safest, latest technology in all areas of treatment, to ensure the best possible results for our patients. These instruments include:
High Power Microscopes
Dentistry is micro-surgery. Using microscope that is similar to the one an ophthalmologist uses enables us to create dental restorations with incredibly precise fit and finish. In addition to allowing precise, close-up work, the microscope directs a beam of light directly on the teeth, minimizing glare for you.
Digital X-Rays and Imaging
Dr. Pounds chooses carefully and may prescribe a combination of digital radiographs (x-rays) and extraoral and intraoral photographs. X-Rays enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, and assess damage when trauma occurs. Digital X-rays also offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light. Digital X-rays result in 1/6th the radiation exposure to you, and can also be stored and transferred with ease.
Computers and TV screens are primary method of information processing, especially for the younger generation. Dr. Pounds utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long – which allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums and see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations.
This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you. Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
